The Fort Jackson Army Career and Alumni Program (ACAP) Center, located in the Education Center, building 4600, Room A200, on Strom Thurmond Boulevard, provides comprehensive transition assistance services for active duty, Reserve and National Guard soldiers, Department of Defense (DOD) civilian employees, and their family members who are separating from military and federal service.
Family members are authorized and encouraged to use the ACAP services. All services provided by the ACAP Center are free. The ACAP Center is open Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m.-4:15 p.m. For more information about ACAP services, please call (COMM) (803) 751- 4109 or (DSN) 734-4109.

PRESEPARATION COUNSELING
The pre-separation counseling is an initial overview that lays the foundation for a smooth transition. All military members should receive this counseling six (6) months prior to their separation date. The pre-separation counseling is an individualized plan and a road map for a successful transition to the civilian sector. Available resources, identification and individual transition plans are made available to attendees.

TAP/ACAP WORKSHOP
The Transition Assistance Program (TAP)/ACAP workshop provides separating personnel the skills and knowledge needed to obtain a new career. Attendees are taught principles in setting objectives, networking, writing resumes’ and cover letters, interviewing techniques, salary/benefit negotiations, and other job search skills. Information is also provided to attendees regarding veterans’ benefits, health insurance, joining the Reserve and National Guard, and how to file for disability and unemployment insurance benefits.

TRANSITION SERVICES
The ACAP Center offers a variety of transition services that include: automated pre-separation counseling, assistance and training in the job search process, coaching, and a variety of automated job information services. Recently ACAP installed a new automation system called ACAP XXI. ACAP XXI is a self-paced interactive, multimedia computer based training system that provide the capability for clients to directly access the computers for services previously provided through group instruction and/or counseling. For example, the service member will be able to complete his/her pre-separation counseling, which is mandated by public law, using this system.
