The mission of the 17th Military Police Detachment is to plan, resource, and conduct specialized Force Protection and Law Enforcement training in support of the Fort Jackson Provost Marshal's Office and the USA Training Center, Fort Jackson, SC. On order, the detachment deploys modular Military Police teams in support of contingency operations around the world. The 17th Military Police Detachment is comprised of a Headquarters Section and two Law and Order Platoons. Personnel from the 17th Military Police Detachment work in support of several law enforcement functions within the DES: MPI, Traffic Enforcement, Desk Operations, Game Warden, K-9, Bike Patrol, D.A.R.E., Force Protection, AWOL Apprehension and Administrative Services. Fort Jackson is the U.S. Army’s largest initial entry training post. It also serves as home to several professional development schools such as the Chaplain school, Drill Sergeant school, Finance school, and Recruiting and Retention school, just to name a few. The unit’s primary mission is Law Enforcement which directs a training emphasis on law enforcement skills and tactics. Our goal is to provide well trained physically and mentally fit soldiers to the Fort Jackson community.
