Our main mission is to improve public safety by shifting from traditional law enforcement practices to focusing on crime and prevention on a local basis.  Community policing is all about putting law enforcement in the communities and neighborhoods where they can build relationships with the people who live there.  Community policing enables officers to build the trust of the members of their communities, increasing the flow of information and ultimately making a safer community.

Services:

COPS personnel work in varied capacities in support of the overall community policing concept:

  •  The most visible aspect of the COPS section lies in the bike patrol.  Members of COPS are actively interacting with the families who reside on Fort Jackson by way of patrolling on bicycles.

  • COPS is responsible for providing DARE instruction to the students at Pinckney Elementary School.

  • COPS is responsible for community activities and special events that occur throughout the year.  Check the Fort Jackson calendar for events such as National Night Out, the Bike Rodeo, Torchlight Tattoo and Identa-Kid.
