The
Fire Prevention & Protection
Division of the Directorate of Emergency Services
(DES) provides a great multitude of services to the citizens
of the Fort Jackson community, both emergency responses
and non-emergency activities. The mission of providing
fire and emergency services never stops; it is a
24-hours-a-day, 365-days-a-year responsibility.
The
Fire Prevention & Protection Division is comprised of 33 personnel, divided
into three branches:
Fire Operations
Fire Operations’ responsibilities include emergency
response to all fire- related incidents, hazardous materials
accidents, specialized rescues and assisting Moncrief Army
Hospital’s ambulance section with emergency medical services
(EMS) responses. They also perform maintenance operations on
fire extinguishers, facility smoke detectors, fire hydrants and
automatic sprinkler systems. Additionally, they support the post
community with educational classes involving fire safety,
first-aid and CPR.
Fire Prevention
Fire Prevention services include performing fire safety inspections of all post facilities and 17 state-wide reserve centers, reviewing new construction and building renovation blueprints for fire code enforcement, conducting fire safety/fire marshal training at post elementary schools and the entire post population and augmenting the Operations Branch during emergency responses.
