The Military Working Dog section provides Military Working Dog Support to the Ft Jackson military community. The section consists of patrol/explosive and patrol/narcotic dog teams. Explosive dog teams are used to conduct vehicle sweeps at entry points, conduct sweeps of facilities prior to VIP visits, and respond to bomb threats and suspicious items.  Explosive teams are also called upon to provide support to the US Secret Service and State Department worldwide.

Narcotics dog teams are used to conduct vehicle sweeps at entry control points assist unit commanders on health and welfare inspections, and to assist investigative agencies on law enforcement related searches.  Request for K9 support of Health and Welfare inspections must be made two weeks prior to the requested date.  Request will only be accepted from the unit commander or 1SG. 

Narcotic dog teams can also be called upon to provide support to the US Customs Service, Border Patrol, and Drug Enforcement Agency at Borders, Airports and Sea Ports Nationwide. All teams are used to perform law enforcement operations on Ft Jackson.  This includes vehicle and walking patrols of housing areas, billeting areas, schools, warehouses and recreation areas.  The military Working Dog Section also conducts demonstrations to support good community relations on Ft Jackson and in the surrounding communities. All teams can also be deployed worldwide in support of current contingency operations
