CPT Russell R. Osterfeld is a native of Queens, New York and Richmond, Virginia. He was commissioned as an Adjutant General Officer upon graduation from the University of South Florida in 2007, with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology.
Upon commissioning he attended the Adjutant General Officer Basic course at Fort Jackson, SC and was later assigned to 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, in Fort Lewis, WA. During that time he served as the Brigade S1, Brigade Assistant S1, Brigade Strength Manager and as the Battalion S1 for 1st Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team. In August 2009 CPT Osterfeld deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 09-10, while assigned to 1-23 IN and assumed the duties of the Battalion S1 throughout the deployment.. Upon redeployment he PCS’d to Fort Jackson, South Carolina to attend the Adjutant General Captain’s Career Course in October of 2010.
CPT Osterfeld’s military schooling includes the Basic Officer Leaders Course, Fort Sill, OK, Adjutant General Advance Course, Fort Jackson, SC, Adjutant General Officer Basic Course, Fort Jackson, SC, South Carolina, and Human Resources Plans and Operations Course, Fort Jackson South Carolina.
CPT Osterfeld’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal (1 OLC), Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon.
1SG Alberto Benitez was born in La Havana, Cuba. 1SG Benitez enlisted in the US Army from Miami, Fl in July 1989, completing both Infantry Basic and Airborne School at Ft. Benning, Ga. 1SG Benitez’s first unit assignment was in Vicenza, Italy with CSC 3/325 Airborne Battalion Combat Team, where he served three years, was deployed to numerous operations as part of NATO, most notably was as part of the Gulf War, “Operation Provide Comfort” in northern Iraq, training and preparing the Kurds after the fall of Baghdad, receiving his first Combat Patch. While in Italy, 1SG earned his EIB, Spanish Jump Wings, Belgium Commando Training and was certified in Cold Weather Training. 1SG Benitez’s next served 5 ½ years with D Co 3/505th PIR at Ft. Bragg, NC were he served as Team Leader through Platoon Sergeant, while assigned, he received the Jungle Expert Tab with three rotations to Panama’s Jungle Operations Training Center. 1SG Benitez was DA selected to Drill Sergeant School in ’97 were he served 2+ years on the trail at Ft Leonard Wood, Mo with A Co 3/10 Infantry Battalion (3rd BCT). After the trail, 1SG Benitez was assigned back to Vicenza, Italy with 1/508th ABCT part of 173rd Airborne Brigade as Platoon Sergeant and S3 NCOIC. 1SG Benitez’s next assignment was with 2/29 Infantry Regiment (light), he served as Javelin Master Trainer and Operations Sergeant Major for 3years. 1SG Benitez was next assigned 2CR Stryker Brigade, which Re-flagged to 4/2 ID (SBCT) at Ft. Lewis, Wa, were he stood up the scout/sniper platoon for 4/9 Infantry “Manches” and later was selected to run a elite security platoon as part of the 202D BSB, where he was deployed for 15 month in Iraq as part of OIF VII/VIII earning his second combat patch and Combat Infantryman’s Badge for numerous combat operations in sector. 1SG Benitez serve as a 1SG for Foxtrot Company 1st Battalion, 61st Infantry Regiment “Phantom Warriors” for 1 year and is currently serving as 1SG of Alpha Company 1st Battalion, 34th Infantry Regiment “Punishers”.1SG Benitez’s Military Education includes: PLDC, BNCOC, ANCOC, Drill Sergeant School, Battle Staff, Airborne School, Jumpmaster School, Total Army Instructor Training, Jingle Expect, Pre-Ranger Course (Honor Grad), CQB Master and Stryker Reconnaissance Vehicle Course. His awards and decorations include: BSM, MSM(2OLC), ARCOM(2OLC), AAM(6OLC), AGCM(6), NDSM(2), SWASM, ICM-CS, GWTSM, HSM(2), NOPDR(3), ASR, OSR(2), MOVSM, KULIBM, CIB, EIB, MASTER PARA, SPANISH JUMP WINGS, and Driver Badge. 1SG Benitez is married and has three children. 1SG Benitez earned his BS degree in Criminal Justice from Fayetteville State University, NC.
