Victory Forge Complete-Rites of Passage Graduation in 1 Week Comments(11)
Posted on:

Good Morning Families and Friends,

Our Soldiers are completing Victory Forge today and conducting their Rites of Passage ceremonies (earning their Berets). Soldiers are tired and have completed some tough training. They will return to the barracks and begin cleaning their equipment, preparing for inspections, and out processing tasks to get ready for graduation in 1 week.

This weekend they will have the opportunity to participate religious services if they choose. We will continue to clean equipment this weekend. Monday 100 Soldiers from each Company will take the new Army PT test, not a graduation requirement, but a data collection for the Army. We will then follow that with an equipment and uniform inspection. Tuesday is Family Day and Graduation rehearsals. Reminder Family Day is at 1000 Wednesday and Graduation is 0900 on Thursday. Weather is 30-40% chance of rain-storms right now. We will make a weather call on location (Solomon Center indoor or Hilton Field outdoor) next week.

When your Soldier calls this weekend, ask your Soldier, “ if they are set to graduate?” Some still have to pass the PT test and make-up some missed training. We get a few that think they have already graduated and do something stupid. Consequences vary from loss of family day privileges, walking in graduation ceremony, not graduating, and /or new start to another battalion. Some Soldiers have already lost these privileges, they know who they are, so ask them are they “Good to Go for Family Day and Graduation?”. So please give your Soldier a little reminder to stay focused and not to mess up all their hard work over the last 9 weeks. I will keep the Drill Sergeants on them too!

Thanks for all the love, prayers, letters, and support you have given to your Soldier. Safe travels and thanks for the time and financial sacrifice you are making to spend these days with your Soldier as they become newest members of the Army Team-Family.

27 March 2011

Good Afternoon from Rainy Cool Fort Jackson,

We had another great week of training this week as all companies are complete with Basic Rifle Marksmanship (BRM) and some have completed Advance Rifle Marksmanship (ARM). Unfortunately, we had some Soldiers fail to meet the Army standard during qualification with their assigned weapon; they will be moved to another Battalion and given another opportunity to meet the standard. You should know by now if your Soldier qualified or if they are being moved. We have a set program of instruction that we must complete and cannot stop training to revisit the qualification range. Trust me your Soldier had numerous opportunities to meet the standard. Most companies took a practice physical fitness test yesterday, so Soldiers can see what events they have improved in, where they stand, and what events they still need to work, so they can pass the EOC PT test in 2.5 weeks.

Now for the week ahead: A Co ARM, Deferred Issue,(Soldiers get fitted for their Army Service Uniform) and FTX 2 ( at least two nights in the woods)

B Co ARM, deferred issue, night infiltration course (NIC, Soldiers execute individual movement technique while experiencing sights and sounds of the battlefield under darkness, Very Cool!)

C Co ARM and deferred issue

D Co FTX 2, NIC, and get to throw live hand grenades

E Co deferred issue, FTX 2, and NIC

F Co deferred issue, FTX 2 and NIC

Keep those letters and thoughts-prayers coming for your Soldier. Saturday 2 April we will transition the whole battalion to Blue Phase. That will leave us with 26 days until graduation. Hooah!

Hope these post helps letting you know what your Soldier is up to.

Week 3-4 Update Comments(38)
Posted on:

Dear Scouts Out Army Family Members, Sorry long tactical pause between updates so let me get you caught up on what is going on in the Battalion.

Last week the battalion concluded week three training and we transitioned to White phase.

Again our focus in White phase is teaching your Soldier marksmanship fundamentals, numerous days on the range improving these fundamentals, qualification days (graduation requirement), and then advance rifle marksmanship (ARM) utilizing the Army's newest optics and lasers. The first company started qualification yesterday and the battalion will conclude qualification next week. Most companies will conduct the confidence course, grown-up obstacle course, the day after qualification range prior to starting ARM.

The weather is wonderful, chilly morning starts with wonderful afternoon temps. Currently 70 degrees and sunny, tomorrow we should be in the mid 80s.

Keep those thoughts, prayers, and letters coming!

Your Soldier loves all the mail. Those still having separation anxiety hang in there; the end of April will be here before you know it.

Families and Friends of 2-60 Soldiers,

Happy Thursday from a 75 degree sunny Fort Jackson! Soldiers are adjusting to the long days that start before sunrise and finish well after sunset.

This week they have learned how to conduct the Army's physical training program, learn how to sleep with 50+ other Soldiers in a open bay( not so private), some have learned to overcome their fear of heights(rappelling off the 40ft tower), and begin forming and building their teams in the bay, platoon, and company.

It has been fun to watch. I have attached to downloads (see bottom of the 2-60 Pages column) Day by Day training events, so you can follow your Soldiers training. We have only listed major training events, so if you see nothing on a day your Soldier may be testing or be receiving classroom instruction, do not worry we are keeping them busy. Sundays, we allow Soldiers opportunities to attend worship services and then give Soldiers prep time to prepare for the upcoming week of training.

I hope this helps. Have Great Day! Keep those letters coming.

Soldiers have arrived! Soldiers for all 6 companies A, B, C, D, E, and F are here and your Soldier is getting to meet their Drill Sergeants, the cadre who are responsible for your Soldiers transformation-training over the next 10 weeks. It is truly an honor and privilege to watch the cadre train your loved one. It will not be easy, some will not make it because of injury or failing to meet the standard, we use one standard, The Army Standard.

I will keep you updated on this BLOG what the Soldiers are doing. Mail is the primary means of communication during BCT. The address below is what you need.

When your Soldier calls to let you know they are OK and to tell you that they won’t be calling again for a very long time ask them,

What is your Platoon number? 1,2,3, or 4

What Company are you in? A, B, C, D, E, or F

That will help you fill in the proper mailing address.

Soldiers Name
Platoon, Company, 2-60
11106 Jackson Blvd
Fort Jackson, SC 29207-5025

Have a great day.

It is Sunny and 75 here at Fort Jackson, SC
