Drill Sergeant School


Reporting to the USADSS
  • NOTICE FOR ALL INBOUND STUDENTS: Your Report Day is Wednesday (the day prior to your course Start Date in ATRRS). Upon arrival to Fort Jackson, students will report to the United States Army Drill Sergeant School (USADSS) barracks at building 9576, located on the corner of Kemper Street and Pickens Avenue. Upon arrival you will receive your billeting assignments and further instructions. NOTE: Students WILL NOT be assigned a barracks room prior to 1200 hrs on their Report Day. Those arriving earlier than their scheduled Report Date will coordinate their own lodging at their own expense; no exceptions.

  • Incoming Students Must bring all basic issue items. (Females must bring pumps and low quarters.)

  • Each student must have the following documents in-hand:

    • TDY Orders (5 copies)
    • ERB (5 copies)
    • Mental Health Evaluation
    • Commander’s Checklist (2 Copies)
    • Composite Risk Management Basic Course Certificate
    • DA Form 7424 - Sensitive Duty Assignment Questionnaire

    NOTE: U.S. Army Reserve and Army National Guard students must bring official/signed copies of ALL prescription drugs currently being taken. These documents will be collected during the initial in-processing.

  • Use of motorcycles by Drill Sergeant Candidates or bringing Personally Owned Weapons (POW) is strictly prohibited.

  • New Drill Sergeant Candidate Guide published- Drill Sergeant Candidates (DSCs) are required to know Drill and Ceremony IAW TC 3-21.5, Drill and Ceremony. To facilitate in their basic knowledge it is recommended that they read chapters 2-3 and become familiar with the first three basic movements and positions: Position of Attention, Rest Positions at the Halt, and the Hand Salute, before they arrive. Drill Sergeant Candidates (DSCs) should also be familiar with FM 3-22.9 Rifle Marksmanship M16/M4 Series Weapons (including Change 1) and FM 7-22 Army Physical Readiness Training.

  • ALARACT "Training Travel Guidance for US Army Training Center and Fort Jackson" from Department of the Army. Please download the memo for the specific DA Policy.

  • IMPORTANT NOTICE: Non - Ft. Jackson DSCs must DELETE their home station domain computer accounts before arriving to the DSSC. Additionally, Information Assurance Awareness Training must be current for 90 days after proposed completion of the DSSC. This will facilitate the creation of a student computer account at the DSSC that will remain active for the duration of the course. Failure to do so will make it EXTREMELY difficult for the DSC to access student materials in the classrooms to enhance learning. Please see your servicing S-6 for assistance.

  • It is strongly recommended that inbound Drill Sergeant Candidates are familiar with and have recently grouped/zeroed an M16/M4-series rifle using IRON SIGHTS prior to arrival.

Effective 18 August 2013, Fort Jackson gate hours will be:

  • Gate 1 (Jackson Ave) - Open 0500-1300 hours to in/outbound traffic Monday through Friday; Open 1530-1800 hours to outbound traffic only from Monday through Friday; closed on weekends.
  • Gate 2 (Strom Thurmond Blvd) - Open 24 hours each day to in/outbound traffic.
  • Gate 4 (Boyden Arbor Rd) - Open 0500-2000 hours to in/outbound traffic on weekdays; closed on weekends.
  • Gate 5 (Semmes Rd) - Open 0500-1330 hours to in/outbound traffic and 1530-1800 hours to outbound traffic only from Monday through Friday; Open 0500-2000 hours to in/outbound traffic on the Weekend.
